Hair Treatments

There are many different types of hair treatments available at hairdressers and mobile hairdressers today, ranging from hair highlights and bleaching, to perms and hair extensions. Here are the main hair treatments available in the UK:

Hair colouring

Hair colouring takes many different forms and the hair colour you choose will depend on the desired results. For an all over light blonde colour, you will probably want your hair bleached, while if you have brown or red hair youíll want to choose a permanent hair tint or colour that is also applied to all of your hair.

Those of you who are trying to cover grey hairs or you just want a temporary change in hair colour will probably want a semi-permanent hair colour, which fades out after around six to eight weeks.

If you want to make your hair look lighter, darker, or contain various shades of colour, then highlights or streaks are probably the best type of hair treatment for you. Made using either a cap or foil wraps, highlights put strands of colour into your hair to give it a natural mixed-tone appearance. If you want to make your hair look darker, ask for lowlights as oppose to highlights.

Hair straightening

Next up on the hair treatment menu is permanent hair straightening, which involves putting chemicals into your hair that remove curls or waves to make your hair look perfectly straight. This type of hair treatment is often used on Afro hair but can also be used on other hair types as long as you donít have bleached hair, swim regularly in chlorinated water or have fine blonde hair, which can be made to look dry and damaged.

For temporary straight hair, hairdressers use ceramic hair straighteners to achieve great results and as an alternative style to blow drying Afro, curly or wavy hair.

Hair perming

In contrast to hair straightening, a hair perming treatment has the opposite affect Ė it creates permanent curls or waves in the hair. Depending on the type of perm treatment used, you can create a loose curl, tight curl or just a slight wave or bend in the hair.

Hair extensions

Finally, to give yourself a completely new look without having to spend months growing your hair, you can do what many celebrities are doing and have hair extensions. There are many different types of hair extensions on the market these days, and your hairdresser will be able to advise you on the best hair extension for your hair.
